This chapter is the core of The Greatest Self-Help Book Ever Written, and advises us to adopt the question, “what is in our control?”
The author points out that we can choose to live free by focusing only on what is 100% in our control – that is, our thoughts and actions.
He also cautions that if we chase things that are not in our control – such as what people think of us, worry about future events and position in life, that we will always be setting ourselves up to be controlled by others.
Because if we hang our hats on what is in others’ power to grant us, then we will always be second-class citizens.
This is a powerful idea. It allows you to live free within your own mind and also be able to live wat peace in the world.
And because we can always control our opinions and plans, once we can leave behind mechanistic thinking about what the world out there has in store for us, we can amaze ourselves with what we can actually accomplish.
