Here’s a decision you might want to make:
You can decide to be happy.
You can decide to believe that things will work out for the best.
You can decide to do your best, in a positive frame of mind, and keep going when you encounter challenges.
You have decided to do lots of things. Many of them are quite small – what kind of coffee to get in the morning, what kind of clothes to wear, etc.
But have you ever thought about deciding on what kind of basic frame of mind you were going to live with?
Because it is a choice. It is a choice that in most cases was made for you. By virtue of where and when you were born, who raised you – and the experiences you have had along the way.
In other words, the decision to be happy or unhappy – is one that is both profound and neglected by most people.
You can decide to take a break from your racing thoughts right now.
And think about your frame of mind.
Can you decide to be happy?
And as with any other decision, once you make it there are things you can do to make sure you achieve it:
- You can decide to reaffirm your decision every morning.
- You can decide to say no to intrusive thoughts.
- You can decide to look at things from a neutral point of view.
- You can decide not to pass judgment on other people for their actions.
- You can decide not to think about things over which you have no control.
You can probably come up with another hundred ways you can support your decision to be happy – and we hope you do.
Because happiness is a frame of mind you can choose to cultivate within yourself.
And like any worthwhile goal, it can take some work. And come with big victories and sometimes a little backsliding.
