Most problems can be reduced to the matter of defeat.
You may have been thwarted in a goal, or are dissatisfied with your lot in life.
Whatever the details, there is a mark in the loss column.
It is easier to think of a loss as a problem. It eases the ego and gives the mind a wonderful maze to wander around, wrestling with the phantoms of possibility, second-guessing and even self-pity.
You may be dealing with a loss today, masquerading as a problem. You may find yourself standing in front of the maze where you can spend years wailing like Job.
Or you can call your problem what it is, a raw defeat.
This is in itself a powerful reaction. You are demonstrating courage where it really counts, in the silence and solitude of your own mind.
And once you have called a problem by its true name, you are ready to create a true solution.
By winning.
Whatever the loss formerly known as a problem may be, its direct opposite exists.
If you are defeated by unemployment, you can win by getting a job.
If you have lost in love, you can win in a new relationship.
To do so, you have to do more than redefine your “problem.”
You have to define what winning looks like.
You must define what winning looks like specifically, by writing out the outcome so that it is measurable and time specific.
This is not a goal, which can often look like nothing more than a map for getting out of the maze of self-pity.
To win means to achieve a clear result that eradicates you problem.
To put it another way, winning means evening the score.
And to avoid other “problems” in the future, you have to focus on winning.
Focus on clear results. This habit has a way of diminishing the size of minor problems along the way.
Because if you keep putting numbers on the board, you are a winner.
A winner is someone who solves problems, yes, and also someone who prevents them from occurring.
By winning.
By demanding a positive result and refusing to get sucked into the maze of pity and doubt.
Commit to winning and watch problems disappear.
