I finally sat down with my friend who was bugging me to watch an episode of Marco Polo.
It was the episode where Marco Polo promised Kublai Khan the war machine would work. It would shatter the Chinese defenses. They would sack the city.
The Khan was skeptical. They had already attacked. And failed.
They had lost half their army.
If they attacked again, they would have to win.
Or die.
The Khan made this clear to Marco Polo.
Marco Polo turned his war machines against the Chinese wall.
And fell short.
He adjusted the machines.
And made a tiny dent.
They kept at it, refining their attack through the night. Each strike making more of a dent.
In the morning the Khan gave the final order.
The war machines let their final barrage fly.
The wall crumbled. The army attacked.
They took the city.
And lived to fight another day.
