His friend called, panic in her voice.

The friend survived a few more nights. Everyone did their part – comfort, support and humility in the face of death. The boy was told what was happening and he prayed for the friend.
During this time, normally important details were handled, but with their proper level of importance. Which is really not much at all. When bigger realities intrude, urgency gets redefined.
Everyone experiences moments of getting shocked out of complacency. Being forced to deal with what’s truly important, first, and letting the rest fall where it may.
And in the aftermath of these moments, many people get a chance to redefine their priorities. To take a clear look at the shape of their lives and focus on what’s truly important.

And there are a select few people who are able to perform this mental exercise with no outside crisis. Sometimes these people are clear thinkers, sometimes they are ambitious.
They are almost always successful. Because they have taken the time to understand what is important, to redefine urgency, and then act.
