Fads have never moved faster. Every season there seems to be a newer, more extreme roller coaster ride available, and there is always a line to enjoy the experience.
The lines to talk about the experience, to sell the how to get rich off the experience are even longer.
We have seen these mobs form out of nothing, explode and drop like glitter into the background long enough to know them for what they are.
Mostly we know not to get involved.
Unless of course, we invented the fad or are first in line.
In this case, we saw another phenomenon coalesce from the sheer excitement in the petri dish, and while enticed, declined to get involved.
It was over before it became a thing.
And because it was already over, even though you might be hearing about it for the first time, we realized there was no way to profit.
More important, we saw getting involved as a time-cost that we would never recoup.
Yes, it felt like staying home on prom night.
And yes, we can still hear the shrieks of delight as the party rages into the night.
Because we have our own project, we are also working into the night.
We can hear the revelers stumbling home, still excited, but sounding weary.
What we don’t hear is the sound of the cash register ringing.
Except as we draw closer to bringing our own project to fruition, and feel we are nearing our own payday.
We will wake up early, excited and ready to begin.
Able to ignore the sounds of the latest fad, the lines queuing up for the next big attraction.
Until they are at our door. Coming to our party.
And making our cash register ring.
