In our tiny historic town, there are a few parades every year that make our lives miserable.
About 50,000 tourists descend, gawking, talking and clogging up our streets.
People literally stop to take pictures of our historic houses.
And since our fat black cat likes to perch in the window sill he is a historic neighborhood Instagram star.
Residents are land-locked for 12 hours – we cannot move our cars, do errands or go grocery shopping.
As I write this, code enforcement is knocking on my neighbor’s door to tell them to move their car.
If they don’t answer it will get towed! From in front of their house!
Earlier this morning, city workers were using leaf blowers to clean the streets – at 1 a.m.!
An overall annoying experience.
But I just went for a walk and smiled when I got a great marketing lesson.
One of our more enterprising neighbors is having an “estate” sale. (Rich neighborhoods get a free upgrade from garage sale.)
They put the signs up along the parade route.
I hope they sell every bit of historic junk they drag to the curb.
This is the kind of lesson we stress in Timeless Profit Principles – using obvious, simple solutions to your marketing questions.
Because if all you’re looking to do is sell your stuff, why make it harder than it needs to be?
