He spent days worrying about the question.
He knew he needed the perfect answer.
He tried everything – writing it down. Asking himself a different question. Asking the question in a different way. He even “meditated” on it.
It was exhausting. And he realized a day or two had passed with no forward motion.
So he decided to put it aside and go back to other work.
It wasn’t even a head fake – he didn’t put it aside in the attempt to trick his mind into forgetting about it. He was too tired to think about it anymore.
So he went back to work, doing tasks that needed to be done, and could be done because he already knew the answer.
In other words, he went back to what he knew.
While he was doing what he knew, his mind was relaxed. There was effort involved but it was within his skill set. Like an athlete doing maintenance workouts.
A couple days pass. His fingers were on the keys. Again doing something he knew how to do.
He asked himself a question to the problem he thought he knew how to solve.
And got the answer to the question he had completely forgotten about.
He was happy with the answer, because at first he thought it was the solution to the known problem. Then he realized that his mind had just delivered him the thing he had been working so hard on just days before.
He was elated. The answer was good, maybe perfect, so there was that. And he was also happy at seeing, once again, a demonstration of the imagination at work.
If you have a problem, definitely work on it. Do the best you can.
If you don’t get an answer and you feel time is slipping away, put it down.
Go do other things, things you know how to do.
It may take a bit of time – a couple of days or even weeks.
But the perfect answer to the problem you want to solve will appear.
And you will be delighted at demonstrating for yourself how the imagination works in mysterious ways.
