It’s a funny thing, isn’t it? Wouldn’t you agree that we’ve become so accustomed to trying to turn every sensation into a disease that people can mistake something as old-fashioned and wholesome as enthusiasm for anxiety?
I understand, it certainly feels like anxiety – the racing thoughts and jumpy energy, the almost pleasant difficulty in settling down and getting to work because it’s just all so exciting you don’t know where to start. Because you say you are feeling anxious in this matter – and I see your point there is a lot riding on the outcome – is not the same as confusing it with a bad feeling that somehow magically needs to be fixed, because this feeling you’re describing can easily be seen as a wonderful gift.
What a Joy to Feel So Alive!
You say you are almost jumping out of your skin – that means you are fully engaged in the process of living the life you desire and for that, congratulations. And as you relax a little, now, taking deep breaths and calming your mind down so you can sort out all the wonderful possibilities and cool things you are doing, it might be useful to think of this situation as an awesome gift – an opportunity to put everything you have into this project because it really does sound wonderful and it is easy, even for anyone else, to see how big and profitable this business can become.
Of course, you have a written plan, maybe even spiral notebooks or one of those three-ring binders where you keep everything organized because there are a lot of details to keep in mind and because you need all your energy free to apply to the task at hand your mind is probably the last place you want to keep them – you want to have all your resources free to apply to the doing so it is always a good idea to have things written down and placed in their proper order so that you may be able to put your hand on anything you need at any moment in order to take care of the next exciting element in your project.
And with all your notes and resources filed, you can just get to work and when you are feeling a little jittery there are a couple easy things you can do such as writing out your plan for the day and then even re-writing it, so it becomes more clear in your mind and you literally rehearse the steps as you create your to-do list so that is always a valuable component of the day.
Getting Things Done is the Best
Way to Handle Anxiety
And if you are writing, let’s say on a keyboard to handheld device some people have found that it is handy to do the first draft of composition in a notepad type application so there is a line of separation between your raw ideas and the send button that publishes it to the world. And after you’ve taken care of the first couple things out of the way you feel so great and are still so energized that you can go for a quick walk around the block it’s amazing how such a simple thing can clear your mind and settle your nerves and get you ready for the next segment of productivity.
As I’m sure you’ve already discovered, the wonderful thing about being in such a high productive phase as you are right now is that it also helps quell that feeling of anxiety you may occasionally feel flare up as you cruise through the day and some would say that if you are indeed cranking out all that work and getting some nice exercise in and eating properly and you’re still feeling that buzzy sensation, well, that’s what’s called living in the moment and you are indeed living at the edge of your ability and opportunity and that is a place not very few ever find.
So you know you are in a very fortunate time and space and that you are already experiencing that delicious feedback loop where ideas and action and results come together and work to building something that is bigger than itself, bigger than yourself and it is understandable that maybe that buzzy feeling is carrying over into the evening hours, a time perhaps when you would rather be with family and getting ready for a good night’s sleep, so you’ve probably already realized that it might be good to set a cutoff time for that last cup of coffee, some people I hear have their last cup around two in the afternoon because they find their natural enthusiasm is carrying them through and consuming that beverage is more a habit than a necessity.
A Productive Day is a Wonderful Reward
And when you do have time to consider whether or not this is really anxiety or just that old-time enthusiasm, you may even laugh to yourself after you kiss your loved ones goodnight and lay your head down for a full night of restful sleep because you know the difference between positive motivation and worry and have known all along and when you wake up in the morning with that smile on your face a little broader and your nerves a little more relaxed you are able to ease into the work at hand with the same dynamic energy but having left the tense edge behind kind of like the socks you threw behind the dresser because what you really need to get through the day is a good pair of shoes and besides not wearing socks is a bold fashion statement you can afford to make once in a while just like strong self-confidence is attractive – even more so – without the undercurrent of fear that many use to protect themselves but have come to realize is an accessory they can do without.
