If you feel you’re chained to something – an obligation or job you don’t want – are you wasting time hoping someone is going to change it for you?
It does happen of course. People get lucky, win the lottery and so on.
But you’d be the same person with a longer chain.
Put another way if somebody did in fact set you free of something that is causing you pain, one writer has said that’s like a dog dragging a chain around.
Only you can change your circumstance.
Perhaps you got yourself into something you no longer desire.
You can make a new decision and say this is no longer for me.
You might have to deal with it a little while longer, as in the case of a job – you do want to secure or something else before launching yourself into the wild recklessly.
You might be dissatisfied with your general state. Again, you have to be the one who’s going to do something about it.
Consider for a moment, that recognizing your dissatisfaction and making a new decision is a powerful posture.
You feel better about yourself immediately.
And when you take action, the good feelings start rolling.
You already feel free.
Because you are.
You feel more competent and in control of your situation.
Because you are.
You are excited about what the future holds for you.
Because you are creating it.
You set yourself free, in fact, when you decide that no one else can do it for you.
